Mosman’s Trams
For the first half of the twentieth century, electric trams were the arteries of Mosman. They ran the length of Military Road and down to the harbour, carrying residents to work and day-trippers to Balmoral Beach and the Taronga Zoo wharf.
The tram was more than transport — it shaped where people lived, shopped and gathered. Mosman’s lines ran until the late 1950s, when buses took their place and the tracks were lifted from the streets.
These colourised scenes preserve that vanished age of the tram, from the rattling cars on Military Road to the run down to the beach.
